Translation Service

Check out this new service! I’ve played with this before by going on to Babbelfish and translating something to another language and then back to english to see what happens. Usually it messes up and returns some fairly odd results.

Well give it a try with an entire website now! Reword allows you to enter a URL and it will translate it to one of four languages and then back to english and you can see what kinda of odd results come back.

Try it with this page.

Visit “their homepage”:http://reword.toolset.org/ to try it yourself.

Recent column

I have now updated the site as I said I would try to do. Basically it’s a dynamic, self-linking website now. A rather neat concept I saw someone else doing by hand, I have automated.

Here’s what goes on – I write an entry, I give it a keyword. Every entry has a keyword. Now, when you view a entry, the script goes through, finds those words in the entry that match articles with keywords, and changes those words into links. These links go straight to the entry with that keyword.

Now, in the beginning this will not be such a big deal since words don’t occur that often – however, as time goes by, the entries will become more and more populated.

I will probably need to tone down the colors for the links in the text so that the site will still be readable – maybe just leave the underlines? Eh.

Nifty!

Today I went to the beautiful CA beaches and then swan….great weekend – even if I did spend over half of it asleep ;-)

What a wonderful day!

Let’s start the day out waking up at a decent time. Say around 8 or 9. I get up, people are up, and in the just great fashion, my mother has made yummy pancakes. So after eating a few stacks (yum) I call N and we go out “shopping”.

Now for car-less N, and myself with a car already bought, “shopping” means looking at cars we want, but can’t have. :-) Anyway, we saw lots of cars – both that I wanted (hondas), and that he wanted (celicas), and that we wanted (300Z). All in all, that was a good ‘ol time. We also saw an imitation car or two and laughed at several.

Anyway, after the “shopping” for the day was over, we went to The Roxy and the mall and hung out waiting for J to get off. Once that was all done, we went to Rhonert Park and played Q-Zar.

Wow…i mean WOW I have never seen such a beat-down in that game EVER. The first game we played with even teams we won 600 to 170. I mean, good lord – we “RoXor3d” them. That was sad. Second game, not so bad – teams were uneven in our favor, so we won – but only about by 40-60 points. Third game was 3 guys and 3 girls on each team. Game was good, my team won again. I none of the games did I get Top Gun this evening, but that is alright – i never got less than second place either. Because while second place is the first loser – i still beat 4 other people every game.

Oh right…i forgot an event. That’s right, driving back to J’s place to stop and let him change, we followed M home. M works at the Roxy and drives a Camero. Anyway, he got a little bit of a head start on us (we kinda forced him into a rase by chasing him down :-). So to eliminate that head start I had to floor it up to about 100mph along the freeway…wee! Finally we caught up with him, but we we’re still behind (we is me and N). So as we race quite fast along the 4 lane street M keeps cutting me off and blocking my passing attempts. Well enough is enough, so we’re in the left lane of our two lanes (4 lane road) and I swerve hard to the right, and he crosses over to the other lane, but before I am half way there I cut staight across the double-yellow to the left and into oncoming traffic (poor honda…) and zip past him. After that M could not get in front of me. I beat a CAMERO. How’s that? Eh….oh yeah, by the way – I drive a 97 SATURN SC2.

Back to the day. After Q-zar we headed over to this party at the house of a girl named K. Anyway, the party wasn’t that great – it was mostly people being loud, getting drunk, and being really horny all over each other. It eventually boilded down to some yelling and people left. That was it really. Went over to S’s house, played a few games of mtg, and came home, wrote this, and will go to bed.

streaming music

Play list file 1 (.pls)
Play list file 2 (.m3u)

Or try going straight to this from your mp3 streaming-enabled player:

http://67.112.201.78:8000/test

If clicking on either of the files doesn’t auto-launch your stuff, you can try downloading the first one (.pls) and dropping it from your desktop onto your mp3 player.

Update, 2004-07-03:

All of these streams have long since disappeared.

OOOOHHHH!!!

I just found a fun fun fun new toy! OS 10.2 now can run Quicktime Streaming Server and Quicktime Broadcaster for FREE. Yes folks, that means you too can run your very own ity-bity free streaming web cam.

Simply download everything, install it, plug in your camera (restart here if needed – i had to) and BAM. About 10 minutes of reading how-to’s and I got a full blown MPEG4 streaming server up and running. Damn this is cool. Streaming to myself there is about a 10-12 second lag time…it’s kinda odd doing things and then having them happen later…it’s almost like I can tell the future. :-D

I still need to test it out side of my LAN though…

Finally over!

This week at work took forever to get over with. I mean, most weeks it’s just fine, I work my hours and then I look up and, “damn!” i was supposed to leave 30 minutes ago. I just couldn’t get into any kind of working groove this week and I was staring at the clock constantly…I may need to turn it off on the computer so I’m not checking every ten seconds.

Fortunately, it’s Labor Day weekend and I won’t be back there till tuesday (I get Monday’s off normally anyway, damnit) so that’s good. I also got my housing packet today which told me talk to my roommates about who was bringing what – but I didn’t get a list of my roommate(s). I wonder if I was even supposed to…I think i’ll call them tomorrow. I wonder if anyone will even be there. Eh.

I ran across this really neat web log today which worked in a very cool way. There was an opening page with recent entries, but each entry was tagged with a specific word. Like “cow” or “spot”. Now the cool part was that when you read an entry, every time a word came up that had been a title for a entry, it was linked to that entry. So if he typed, “A cow was on the spot” there’d be two links in the sentence. This is a rather interesting way of doing things and I’m thinking of setting mine up like that just for the hell of it (also simply to figure out if I can really do it. :-)

wooo...

“Cure for dyslexia they have!”

Todays:

Acclipation – (Application)

Nothing terribly new…a little layout change. Just waiting now…hoping for my packet of information on who my roommates will be to get here soon. Also still waiting for my certificates to get here. sigh can’t do anything but wait, wait, wait.

Stuff

You know, I don’t really care what other people say – I think Magic The Gathering is a great card game. It costs too much to get a great deck, but if you spend a few buck (just as much as for a computer game or two) you will probably get twice as much enjoyment out of it. Seriously, comparing it to a computer game – I enjoy kicking some ass in quake, but it always seems more gratifying to take a persons life down to -5 when I can see them face to face. It’s more fun to watch a persons deck be desimated by a commons deck than to get the “Frag” award in quake. Anyway, yeah…magic is fun.

Also, I now have less than one month at my current job. I will miss it. And I got yelled at today by my boss. Poor Jeff.

I’m going to start writing down my dyslexic sayings. Things like “drain bread” (brain dead) or “mind will” (wind mill) Jeez – they’re even hard to type!

EEWWWW!!!

This is the most gross and disgusting site I have ever seen – so of course I was glued to clicking around on it for about 30 minutes…boy did I need fresh air after that…

Upgrade

I recently made the upgrade to OS 10.2 for mac. This whole new rendering engine for the OS is kinda cool, but it’s also not that great for me. See, I have the very first model of the tiBook made – this means I only have 8megs of ram on my video card. Last I read, the new engine doesn’t even kick in at full power unless you have 16mb. Damnit – and there are NO upgrades for my video ram.

That’s one of the biggest downfalls of having a laptop…you can’t upgrade ANYTHING on them. I mean, i really appreciate having this machine – it’s come in really handy being portable, but I can’t ever make it a better machine than it already is. Bah!

The new applications that come with this system are working out nicely – even though we’re still missing a few I really want to check out. Specifically I want to have iCal and iSync. See, once I get iCal, I can completely get rid of microsoft entourage. Now that the apple Mail program is pretty much as full-featured* as Entourage/outlook, and the address book is great, I don’t really need it aside from the calendar.

The reason I’m looking forward to the iSync is so that my palm will be synced up between my calendar, my address book, and maybe even my email. That would be great – having the same information available and sync’ed between all my gadget goodies…ahhh drooool

Despite all the great things that the system offers, upgrading has it’s problems. So far my biggest gripe is that FruitMenu’s no longer works. If you even have it installed, cnrtl-clicking with my (microsoft) two-button mouse will crash whatever program I click in…including the finder. Bummer.

Second gripe is general upgrade issues…my IM program “forgets” to draw window shadows on it’s self at times…just annoying. There are a few other things like there are these weird sounds that happen while navigating in the finder (i think they are supposed to go with opening and closing windows, but they’re just annoying) and also opening and closing windows causes them to “zoom in/out” which is just a pointless waste of processor power…then again, so is me running a screen saver as my background ;-)

Finally, I found the “wicked-cool” iChat application sucks. I mean, I think if it will work with Rendevouz stuff, that will roXoR hard – but for AIM it’s just kinda ugly, big, and slow compared to Adium. So for now it will stay out of my dock.

Well, in the mean time, why don’t you just enjoy this beautiful screen shot of my desktop!

* – true, Mail may not have as many features, but good lord, it’s just email – how many do you need?!?

Approval

After going to the school on Thursday, I am not really securely accepted (pending any more flip-outs because of annoying logistical stuff. Anyway, I’ve got my school schedule now too. It’s pretty good. I’m looking forward to most of my classes ;-)

  • Intro to Multimedia
  • Intro to Design
  • Intro to Drawing Yikes!
  • Color Theory this outta be fun ;-)
  • English Composition

Of course, my english class is the only class I have at 8 in the morning AND it’s on monday….gah! I’m going to see if I can get that changed.

Oh yeah, I went to the JC before I spent 2.5 hours in traffic to SF. I went to find out what was going on with my certificates yet and why I didn’t have them yet. After waiting about 30 minutes in line and waiting for a person to get to me (it’s ok, it was really busy) I got confirmed that I will officially have the certificates! Yay! So on my record as of yesterday I now have:

  • HTML Certification
  • Dreamweaver Certification
  • Adobe Photoshop Certification
  • Web Graphic Designer Career Certification

Count down to SF stands at 7 days, one month.

Never ends!

This school is driving me nuts!!!

First, i get a letter saying my loan is denied!

Turns out that the loan by myself was denied, but the one with my dad was approved, so I’m ok.

Then I get a letter saying I’m only conditionally accepted!!!

Turns out the letter was wrong – I’m still in. Gah.

Now I am being “audited” by the government! They’re taking my taxes, my moms/dads taxes and seeing if I lied of not.

UGH. I mean, every time I get a letter from them I flip out cause something has “gone wrong”. Hopefully I’m done with the bad part – through the storm. I just want to go to school now.

Tomorrow (today technically) I go down to SF to preregister…

That’s another thing! A letter from them takes 5 days to get here. Yeah, 5 freaking days. So by the time I get a vitally important message, it’s already 3 days old – lotta good that does me. It’s kinda rediculous considering i am no more than a 2.5 hour drive from the school.

Well tomorrow will go smoothly…I hope…

Expecting

I feel bad about it, but everyday that goes by, I want the next day to be the day I leave. I am so ready to get out – to get to school, to stop working for a while, and most importantly, to get out of my house.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love my mother and my father, but I am tired of living at home. When I helped my friend move out, and I was standing there in his ill-furnished ity-bity apartment and I just yearned SO badly that I was the one staying there. I just feel like I was ready to move out a long time ago and I haven’t because school has been holding me back.

Thus the second biggest reason for me wanting tomorrow to be the beginning of school: The sooner it starts, the sooner it ends and I can get on with my life. I’m sick of waiting for school to give me some stupid slip of paper that will “allow” me to have a high-paying job in the furture. It’s like you are automatically dumber if you don’t have it – and it’s frustrating when you don’t really need it.

But it’s what you’ve got to do if you don’t want to hit that “glass ceiling” in a few years. So as much as I don’t want to spend another two years in school and accumulate $50,000 worth of debt, I’d rather not ever hit that ceiling.

This site...

Well once again I’ve changed this site all around (oh joy ;-).

There’s no posting, no comments, no nothing but what I write. If you want to say something, email me. As it is right now, there’s no one that would be posting here, so I’m not gonna even try to make a posting system.

It’s simply going to be a place for me to write about myself, and my life. No more than a pretty journal…

Yay!

Well after several meetings, getting all my papers together, going to SF a few times to meet down there, we finally got everything worked out and I have been accepted! I should be going through this program and doing it in about 2 years (it’s supposed to be three, but with my experience and previous schooling I should be able to get out in 2).

I’m rather exicted about this, not only because I’m going to be going a to a great school and getting a really nice degree, but I’m also going to be moving out! Yeah, October 2nd I leave for my new home in Daly City (right near SF). I’ll most likely be living in a large two bedroom apartment with three other people. The place is already furnished (with exactly what, I am not sure) has a fridge, kitchen, microwave, living room and 2 bathrooms. It’s gonna be great.

Of course, for 2 years of school and $50,000 dollars, this better be great! >:-/
