What the new day brings

I will be starting classes tomorrow (technically today, actually). Tomorrow is drawing and I have to take in this big ass artists bag filled with way too much junk that I know I won't need hardly any of...grr.

Also, I will be going early to take a peak at the job postings to see if Lab Assistants are wanted, because I am desperate for that job!

And the other reason for going early is because on my tour of the SF Public library, Jessie and I found on the 5th floor, a area with power plugs and CAT5(commonly called "ethernet") outlets...i am wondering where they go and if I can get some fast net off of them. So I'll be testing that out as well.

moved in!

Written on 10/2

Well, first day at Daly City is nearing completion. It's 8:45 and I am here with no communication with the outside world available. Hrm....this kinda sucks...i need a minimum of dialup...(which as chance would have it, I have a dialup account, but I need to get the phone activated. Gah.)

No phone. No Internet. No TV. Radio....yeah, woo. Well, at least I get live105 really well now (duh).

I need to do the dishes.

I can't concentrate on shit. It's the same feeling I had before I came here....it's like I am sort of in a dream. Almost not real. It's hard to believe that this is my own apartment (shared, but still) and that there are no brothers, no cats, no mother, no birds, no friends. It's odd and I don't think my brain is able to wrap it's head around this change even though I've been preparing since the beginning of summer.

In the mean time the apartment is completely setup. D's (my roommate's) mother bought us just about every single thing you can have in a kitchen....and then some. No really, she bough a LOT of stuff - the place looks real now...gosh I though I was set when my dad left and I had enough top ramen and cup of noodles for a week, but now....jeez, I don't think I'll have to shop until december. heh :-)

The day's events:

  1. Walked around confused at my house - finished packing.
  2. Walked around some more cause I swear I forgot something.
  3. Left in the morning to get my dad.
  4. Got my dad, and started out on the road around 10 I think.
  5. Got to SF and stopped at AI to get my keys and such.
  6. Went to Daly City.
  7. Stopped at Safeway deli and got sandwiches.
  8. Went to apartment - fiddled with stupid key in door FOREVER to get it to work. Got in.
  9. Inspected apartment and the furniture....of course, after playing with one of the desks it fell completely apart...gah. Well, we'll get that one replaced. The apartment is pretty nice. It's small, no doubt, but what did you expect? I mean, i am only spending $800/month on it! It's got a bathroom, two closets, a kitchen with electric stove and oven. Sink, garbage disposal, cabinets, etc. Oh yeah, a large glass sliding door TO A BALCONY! Sweet! :-) Right now the balcony is holding my bike and the broken desk.
  10. Ate sandwich.
  11. Moved all my stuff in....mind you I am on the second floor....we had no hand cart or anything, so we used a nearby shopping cart to move stuff...hehehehe
  12. At this point the D still hasn't arrived, so my dad and I go food shopping at Safeway (yes we went back....good forethought on our part, eh?)
  13. Come back, put away food, finish up a little bit of stuff. Dad leaves. Jeff's alone.
  14. After about an hour D knocks and starts his moving in. His mother, sister, and little brother are with him to help. Nice family - I will admit I was nervous about meeting this guy, I was rather afraid we wouldn't get along well. All my fears were laid to rest when 1) I stuck Linkin Park on and he said "Hell yah" and 2) I saw the MTG cards on his cd stand. We'll get along just fine. :-D
  15. D leaves for the evening. I'll see him later tonight, he's out visiting people in the bay area.
  16. I go down and find the BART station near by - not a long walk, but it's up a hill so it's, um, gonna be rough the first couple of times. I look around, read about how everything works and stuff. I buy $10 worth of tickets.
  17. Get back to apartment cause I forgot my change. I get quarters and go down to the shopping center - that walk is much longer than I expected, and the way back was uphill. Man, damn these hills. At least it's exercise for lazy-Jeff. Anyway, i went there to call my mother and girlfriend to check in and give out my address.

I did forget something. Razor blades, shaving gel, toothbrush and the tv remote. Damn.

leaving for sf

Tomorrow morning I leave for Daly City (SF).....wow....i just can't get over this terrible feeling that I am going to get there and have forgotten half of everything I need. Gah.

Great weekend

This is the best weekend I have had in a good long time. The journey begins on Friday…

I wake up for my last day of work and go into the office an hour early. I would go early sometimes nick just said “moo” in his sleep, hehehe so that i would leave early, afterall, I do enjoy seeing the daylight some days. I get there and the day starts off normal, I do my work, and then at some point during the day they present me with a makeshift going away cake! I say make shift because they ran out of candles and had to use matches in their place….knowing better now, don’t do that. It doesn’t work that great. Along with the cake the office has bought and signed a going away card for me. It really makes me feel good to know that in just 4 months on Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 3pm I changed how that entire office works. It’s a cool feeling.

That was friday day. Friday evening:

I came home from work and, as geek as I am, setup my computer, check versiontracker and low and behold, Apple has released iSync Beta.

I have been waiting for iSync to come out since I purchased my Handspring Edge this summer. I love palms – one of the best things I have ever bought – twice. My first one was stolen sniff. Anyhow, after reading various reviews on iSync, user feedback, and the “known issues”, I am really dissapointed in Apple with this product. It’s not that I mind all the bugs and missing features, it’s just that they were supposed to have this beta out about a month ago. I know nothing about software development and the situation at apple, but when they say that software is going to be ready in septemeber and then release a mere beta at the very end of the month, that’s agrevating to drooling end users such as myself! Finally, iSync is in reality, nowhere near ready to be released – in fact it has no point to it’s existence so far. It offers no features I don’t already have, it’s untested, in beta, and in fact has less features than my Palm Desktop Software. Not to mention some of it’s features require a $100/year .Mac membership. A real bummer considering I’ve been salivating over this product for some time.

I eagerly await the full version and it’s requisit .1 update to see if this piece of software was worth Apples time.

Back to the weekend events . . . Later in the evening my girlfriend and I get together for dinner – dinner at Carrow’s, but stil dinner. However, I am low on cash so she drudgingly gets dragged to it. She’s been real sick with the flu for a while too, but is feeling better now.

Sleep

It is now Saturday.

Get up, clean house, await party people. I decided to have a going away party for myself. My mother was going to plan it for me and make it a surprise party, but I found out and just started inviting people since she didn’t really know who to invite – and hadn’t invited anyone. I sent out 10 invites for people to show up at 5 – no one got here till 8….that kinda pissed me off, but I also sort of expected it. Eh. The party was to be a normal party and then later on (around 9) turn into a LAN party. Well, since no one really came to the regular party we went straight into the LAN gaming.

Hot damn – best LAN party I have ever been to…well I’ve only been to one or two…held by myself…yeah. Anyway, by the time we got everything setup we had 3 tables with 8 computers running 4 different operating systems (winME, win2000, winXP, macos10.2) playing a HUGE starcraft game – and the LAN had DSL access. w00t! We had a few games of Quake1 as well – in which we all got our asses handed to us by T. Damn he got good.

The party rages on till about midnight when we start to lose people and computers, by 3 or so in the morning we lost all but 4 computers (2 of which are mine), and finally at 6 in the morning the last 3 people decide to finish the last game of magic and go to sleep.

By the way, at this point in the story it is now sunday morning, 6am. The sun is rising, and it’s going to be a beautiful day.

Plans for today:

  1. wake up
  2. clean house up (ugh)
  3. go to q-zar
  4. kick ass at q-zar
  5. come home
  6. pass out

I will have pictures of the party later perhaps.

getting ready

I talked to my soon-to-be roommate on friday and we worked out who’s bringing what. We both bring all the personal essentials. Clothing, bedding, toiltries, etc. I’m gonna bring my desk, stereo, and all the eating dishware (silverware, plates, cups, etc) and my roommate, D, will be bringing a tv, dreamcast, and the cooking stuffs (pots, pans, etc).

One week, two days now.

Flash work updates

Well, after a great deal of work, I finally managed to crank out these two flash projects i’ve been working on.

Adobe GoLive 7 Preview

Adobe recently release a preview version of their web creation software in it’s next great version. Take a peak here.

3D Renderings Discovered

I recently discovered so old 3d work I did a long time ago. I was surprised to find it was still rather good, so I showcased it in Flash.

Woo – enjoy those and let me know what you think.

l33T Speak invades schools...

Interesting article, which many /.‘ers have commented on. About half way down the page they get into some interesting stuff about translation and language…so i qoute:

Our Father, who 0wnz heaven, j00 r0ck! May all 0ur base someday be belong to you! May j00 0wn earth just like j00 0wn heaven. Give us this day our warez, mp3z, and pr0n through a phat pipe. And cut us some slack when we act like n00b lamerz, just as we teach n00bz when they act lame on us. Please don’t give us root access on some poor d00d’z box when we’re too pissed off to think about what’s right and wrong, and if you could keep the f3i off our backs, we’d appreciate it. For j00 0wn r00t on all our b0×3n 4ever and ever, 4m3n.

By the way – my take on this: Keep the “l33T sp34|<” out of your school papers kiddies.

In other news

I got my order today. Three days and $191.90 and I am now the proud owner of a tiBook with 1 Gigabyt of RAM. That’s right, 1,024 Megabytes of ram…

All i have to say is this:

“w00t!!!!1”

Look, my house . . . sorta

Well, this is neat. mapquest.com now lets you (if you sign on with a aol/netscape/aim username) look at arial photos of the map you are looking at. Kinda cool to scope out a friends house<

N's House

Or to check out the house you are living in … except their photos are more than a year old and you can only see my foundation!

My house...sorta

hehehe.

Badd-ass gun

This is one crazy gun.

As it is, the kind of firepower you can carry around with you scares me – yet the human manages to invent more deadly ways of killing ourselves every day.

Yikes.

War Car

Heh, check out this wireless war car for internet access.

Bush is great....

Attack, attack!

Kill, kill!

War, war!

Damn, I love republicans!

9/11 -- Bullshit

9/11, 9/11, 9/11 Blah Blah Blah.

This recent slashdot poll has most every viewpoint on the subject of how 9/11 has affected us.

A few that I had come to conclusion far before reading this:

  • Bin Laden – the NUMBER ONE public enemy, is STILL at large, and our almighty government still has it’s head up it’s ass trying to find a single man. Yet, if I got a parking ticket, they’d find me in 2 days. Go figure…
  • Civil liberties are under HEAVY attack by power grubbing politicians and government agencies. Strike while the iron is hot, eh? While most of these legislations and laws don’t immediately affect a lot of people now, they are getting a foot hold that will be hard to break later.
  • “Terrorism” is defined as: The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons. Or in simpler terms, using violence to scare people so they recognize you.

You don’t blow up a farm in oklahoma to get people to pay attention to your cause, you hit the World Trade Center with a jet liner or two to get some attention. You don’t scare a nation with Snickers bars, you send them home video’s of your anthrax brew killing dogs!

The point was to scare us, and scare us they fucking did. People are afraid for tomorrow. People are afraid to fly on airlines. People are afraid of Islamic, or islamic looking people – hell, all you need is a beard and people will give you a second, demeaning glance.

When 9/11 first hit, people were running around screaming “We will not let terrorism affect us” Well guess what, terrorism has affected us, and its done it perfectly. They did exactly what they intended too – Bin Laden and his Al Queda went from nobodies to celebrities.

  • Finally, the last thing that I noticed is that news channels now are apparently required to dedicate 10 minutes of every program to 9/11 bullshit. I mean, yes I am disheartened that we lost so many so fast, but you know what, we’ve been giving these FEW people their dues for a year as of today, yet the hundreds of people dying every week in other countries due to terrorism don’t get as much as a 3 second blurb in the news, or a 6th page subtitle in the paper.

If people really want to “defeat” terrorism they must simply move on. The only way to “win a war again terrorism” is to keep on going. I mean, suppose we do find Bin Laden. Suppose we find his sorry ass, prove he is responsible for 9/11, and kill him – do you think terrorism will stop then? Will you feel safer when he’s gone but the next fanatical lunatic is stepping up to the plate? I wonder…

My Smarts

Apparently I have some kind of “Nature Smarts”. Now, I don’t mean to disagree with this quiz type thing, but it’s got to be completely wrong. I mean, come on!

Gah…right.

Racing in SR

“Boy howdy” would this be fun!

Especially since I drive this bad-boy

You can read some official stuff from the race tracks website here.

So, who wants to go with me? ;-) Only $10 to watch, and $20 to race :-D

In other news, after being explicitly told I had received my certificates, I got three, count them, three denials in the mail today. Sigh So I went right down to the JC and the person in charge of certificates and such leaves work just as I am getting off work every day! Oh joy! Grrr….. >:-/
